About Imagine Education
Imagine Education creates virtual worlds in which students learn wide-ranging mathematic skills through story. Engaging characters, exciting adventures, and challenging middle-school level math content entice the imagination, forever changing student’s relationship to the subject. Proven to raise state test scores while complimenting established curriculum, teachers and parents alike can depend on Imagine Education's StoryPlaying experiences to stimulate learning and instill fundamental comprehension.
The StoryPlaying Concept
StoryPlaying is a teaching concept that integrates language and math to create a relationship to the subject material based on meaning and purpose. Including StoryPlaying in math curriculum enhances the imagination by guiding students deep into the material and reinforcing whole brain learning.
Executive Team
Scott Laidlaw, Ed.D. - Director, Game Designer
"Teaching mathematics can no longer be about getting the United States ahead as if it were a competition against the Japanese, Chinese or Koreans. We live in a truly global world now. We need educational products that go beyond teaching just factual information and go into the deep interconnections between subjects and community."
Scott has been teaching for 11 years and is sought as a consultant for best practices in mathematics specializing at the middle school level. For the past 6 years, Scott has created rich, story-based math games for classroom use that have not only effectively increased test scores but have changed the student's view about math. As founder of Imagine Education, Scott is dedicated to reforming math education and building products by the teacher for the teacher.
Jennifer Harris, MBA, CPA, CMA - Financial/Creative Advisor
"I have come to realize that our relationship to money is highly correlated to our relationship to middle school math. Not just the obvious mental skill-set, but the emotions and stories attached to the subject and the resistance we build through our beliefs. Nurturing a student's ability to find meaning in math is not just about personal development - it is vital to our collective financial health."
Jennifer has 17 years of diversified experience in finance and operations including 12 years with Fortune 500 companies. As an advocate for financial literacy, she works with individuals and entrepreneurs to create a sound financial foundation through understanding the core paradigms that shape our relationship to money.
Deborah Evans - Communications Manager
"I'm happy to see the concept of whole mind teaching finally go beyond a fuzzy, wooly-headed idea. The fact is, story engages and that's what we need for learning. Story bridges the gap between educational curriculum developed by companies and the students and schools that use them. The bar just went up, and that's what we are striving for here at Imagine."
Deborah's enthusiasm for shifting the way math is taught is infectious. With 10 years of a myriad of marketing and writing experience, Deborah manages the face of Imagine.
Jacob Gregory - Development, International Markets
"Products that integrate math, language and culture are invaluable to the development of our youth. Unified teaching platforms serve to fill education gaps and connect our worlds."
Jacob brings 9 years of international business experience to open the world-wide distribution channels for Imagine products. With his professional sales team, Jacob will initiate this endeavor with a Spanish version of Ko's Journey due late Fall 2010.
